Krautrock bands may be a dime a dozen, but not every group of the genre can claim the kind of catalogue that Tangerine Dream can. Formed in 1967 in West Berlin, the free-rock band  has released more than 100 albums – over 20 of which were soundtracks.

Unsurprisingly, for a band that is nearly 50 years old, the membership has changed here and there. In fact, 22 individuals have been members of Tangerine Dream at any given point, though frontman Edgar Froese is the one constant. Add to that nearly 50 guest musicians, and it’s no easy feat to keep tabs on the band.

In addition to a rotating body, Tangerine Dream’s music has also, undoubtedly, evolved over the years – so much so, in fact, that each musical period of creation is known as a particular era, e.g. the Pink Years, the Blue Years, the Melrose Years, the Seattle Years, and more. Since 2005, the band has been in the Eastgate Years, a reference to its current record label. Catch the legendary group on a European tour, the Phaedra Farewell Tour. Natalye Childress
